Established in 1961, the Louisiana State Arboretum was the first state-supported arboretum in the United States.

Located within Chicot State Park, this natural oasis is just begging to be explored.

The arboretum features 600 acres of some of the most beautiful natural landscapes Louisiana has to offer.

With over five miles of hiking trails that are great for families with kids of all ages.

The Visitor Center is the perfect place to start your journey.

Inside, you’ll find several interactive exhibits and educational displays about the area.

After you’ve learned about the area in the Visitor Center, it’s time to hit the trails.

The nature trails will take you deep into the wooded areas, surrounding you in an emerald green forest.

There are over 150 species of plant life found at the Louisiana State Arboretum.

Along your hike, you’ll encounter a Beech-Magnolia forest containing century-old trees, ferns, hickories, maples, and many others.

It’s also a habitat for countless wildlife.

Keep your eyes peeled for white-tailed deer, fox, possum, raccoons, turkey, and numerous different species of birds.

Whether you're with the whole family, or just looking for a solo adventure, the Louisiana State Arboretum is an ideal escape.
