Louisiana is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including many unique and endangered species.
With 40% of the nation's wetlands and more bayous, lakes, and rivers than you can count, it's no surprise that Louisiana is home to countless species of birds, reptiles, insects, and fish. Here are some of the most prominent species in our state.
1) Pelican

This large constricting snake loves to feed on gophers. Unfortunately, it's currently endangered.
10) Gray Fox
Skilled tree climbers, these foxes are currently considered endangered.
11) Chicken Turtle
These turtles can live for up to 20 years and travel for miles to escape dry conditions.
