If you're looking for a long but beautiful trail to conquer in Louisiana, then you'll love the Kincaid Reservoir Trail in Kincaid Recreation Area.
If you're looking for a long and beautiful Louisiana hiking trail to conquer, then we have the trail for you. This special trail follows the shore of Kincaid Reservoir for 11.8 miles, and you'll love the route the entire way. It gets hot and humid in Louisiana at pretty much every time of the year, so you can expect to work up a sweat on this adventure, but you're sure to find it well worth it. Read on to learn more about this very special trail.
The Kincaid Reservoir is a 2,600-acre reservoir near Alexandria, Louisiana. It is within the Kisatchie National Forest and is easily accessible from Highway 28. People come from all over the state to enjoy this reservoir, and it's known as an excellent place for swimming, boating, waterskiing, and fishing. Visitors enjoy picnicking, camping, and wildlife viewing along its shores, too.
There are lots of great places to hike in this area, but if you're looking for an all-day challenge, you might take on the Kincaid Reservoir Shoreline Trail. This trail is actually a system of many shorter, connected trails, but if you hike the whole thing out-and-back, it's almost 12 miles in length.
However, other than its length and the potential heat and humidity, this trail is not all that difficult. It's time consuming - it'll take you about five hours to walk from one end to the other and then back to where you parked - but you'll only experience about 1000 feet of elevation gain along the way.
Because this Kincaid Reservoir is a man-made reservoir, the shoreline weaves in and out, producing a vast number of inlets that are fun to explore by boat. They're also a lot of fun to hike, because you'll also get to weave in and out along the shore on your adventure.
You'll love this trail. It's a popular trail, but due to its length, you'll likely go long distances without running into anyone else. The trail is kid-friendly, but dogs aren't allowed, so leave your pups at home.
For the most part, this trail is easy and stress-free - again, other than its length. The only things you'll need to watch out for are muddy areas, low tree branches, roots, and bugs. You'll certainly want to bring some insect repellent along for the trip. You'll also want to keep an eye out for mountain bikers, because they share this trail with hikers, too.
The Kincaid Reservoir Shoreline Trail is a fantastic opportunity for anyone to enjoy this part of Louisiana while walking along a beautiful body of water through a dense and shady forest. You'll love the time you spend on this trail - even if you do end up a bit sweaty at the end! Plan a hike along Kincaid Reservoir today. Happy trails to you!
