Featuring over 600 acres of untouched natural beauty, the Louisiana State Arboretum is one of the most popular attractions for nature lovers in Louisiana. Established in 1961, it’s the oldest state-supported arboretum in the country, and is both an educational and inspirational attraction the whole family can enjoy. Let’s take a closer look.
The Louisiana State Arboretum is located in Ville Platte, Louisiana.
Bring the whole family out for this fun-filled daily adventure.
It’s located within Chicot State Park, which features over 6,4000 acres of bottomland hardwood forests and the lake itself.
Before you hit the trails at the Arboretum, be sure to pop into the visitor center.
Inside, you’ll learn about the flora and fauna you’ll encounter along the trail plus all of the wildlife that call the area home.
There are several trails with the arboretum.
Each one will lead you through some of the most beautiful scenery Louisiana has to offer.
As you stroll down the boardwalk, keep an eye and an ear out.
The area is home to countless wildlife including white-tailed deer, raccoons, possums, and number species of birds.
Depending on the time of year that you visit, you could see several flowers in bloom.
Like this native azalea.
But no matter when you visit, you'll be treated to a sea of emerald greens and the symphony of sounds from the wetlands.
A picture-perfect Louisiana day!
The arboretum is open from Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Entrance to the arboretum is free, but if you decide to check out Chicot State Park, you'll have to enter through the state park side and pay $3.00.
