Since Kentucky is known for its rolling hills and beautiful farms, you'd hope that we'd have quality farmers markets to showcase what's grown in our state. Well, we do and there's one that you absolutely have to visit. With multiple locations and one of them even open year-round, the Lexington Farmer's Market offers something for everyone.
Originally established in 1975, the Lexington Farmers Market takes pride in bringing locally grown, fresh produce to the community. Their main location is at the 5/3 Bank Pavilion in Cheapside Park, with more than 75 members during the season.
The Market is a cooperative, which means the vendors must go through a process to be approved and then included. This means that you'll only find quality products, along with a variety of options.
The main season of the farmers market typically runs mid-April through the end of November. Of course, the produce and other items vary depending on the growing season, weather and availability. This was a recent photo of strawberries, ready to go home with you, straight from the farm.
Lexington Farmers Market offers more than produce. You can find beautiful flowers, arrangements and plants, homemade cheese, peanut brittle, kettle corn and many others.
When you wander through a farmers market, you may wonder where these items actually came from. Well, there's no guess work here, as each item has a card that states in which county it was grown and whether it was grown by that farm, or another. The farmers market is organized, well-run and most importantly, passionate about making your visit fulfilling and memorable.
The main location of the farmers market is open all year, but times and vendors do vary. During the spring, summer and fall, there are extended hours and locations.
