There’s A Little-Known Nature Trail Just Waiting For Kentucky Explorers

Devou Park in Northern Kentucky offers scenic views, hiking trails, and a nature preserve teeming with native wildlife.

One of the best things about living in Kentucky is how very green our state is. Between our rolling countryside and our robust state parks, opportunities for hiking can be found all across the state. Even our major metropolises are wonderfully lush, with hidden city parks and gardens aplenty. In Northern Kentucky, Devou Park is a humble city park boasting expansive riverfront views, a golf course, and a little-known nature trail and preserve.

In Northern Kentucky, Devou Park is part of the City of Covington's parks system. The largest of the city's parks, Devou Park is best-known for its scenic overlook and pavilion, the latter of which hosts activities like summer movies and community yoga classes.

The park is also well-known for golf, its 18-hole course winding through the glorious hills of Northern Kentucky.

What many don't realize, though, is that there is a little-known nature preserve hiding in Devou Park.

Devou Park is teeming with native plants and wildlife, offering a glorious, Eden-like escape within Northern Kentucky's largely urban landscape.

The park is home to approximately 10 acres of prairies and natural areas aimed to provide a habitat for the Monarch Butterfly and other wildlife populations native to this region of the Bluegrass.

This prairie is also filled with Solidago flowers, commonly called Goldenrods, which is Kentucky’s state flower!

Within this small-but-scenic expanse, there are more than eight miles of secluded backcountry trails through the rolling landscape; a haven for hikers, mountain bikers, and anyone seeking a refreshing retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city.

So lace up your hiking boots or grab a bike, and enjoy some R&R in this little-known nature preserve in Northern Kentucky!

Did you know that Devou Park also affords some of the best views of our neighbor to the north, Cincinnati? This little Northern Kentucky park is full of surprises!
