This Epic 15-Mile Trail In Kansas Is Covered In Greenery And Beautiful Blooms In The Springtime

">Springtime in Kansas is such a magical season, isn't it? From our family-friendly festivals to the verdant greenery that surrounds us, spring brings new life and new beauty to the Sunflower State. There are plenty of great spring activities to enjoy in Kansas, but one of my favorites is hiking. The warmer weather makes it a great time to be outdoors, and there are so many great species of flowers that often bloom along trails. You also have a greater chance of glimpsing wildlife as critters become more active after winter's thaw. There are some fantastic spring trails in Kansas that are worthy of a visit, but one of our favorites is the Elk River Hiking Trail in Elk City State Park, just west of Independence. Let's take a look at this gorgeous hike:

Elk City State Park spans 857 acres. Its location right alongside the massive Elk City Reservoir means there are some phenomenal views here.

Many of the park's best views can be admired along the Elk River Hiking Trail. This 15.3-mile point-to-point trail is considered moderately difficult and may be a bit much for novice hikers, but if you're up for the challenge, it's a pretty incredible adventure.

The trail begins at the dam's west end and ends at the Elk River, giving you plenty of opportunities to admire the scenery.

This area is filled with unique rock formations that also make for some pretty special scenery.

Visit in the springtime and the landscape becomes even more incredible as the park erupts in blooms and greenery.

There's nothing like getting outside and enjoying a warm spring day, and if you're up for the challenge, this hike is an excellent spot to explore the outdoors.

It's a great trail to enjoy at any time of year, but there's nothing like a spring visit to Elk City State Park.
