Wildfires Are Raging Through Kansas And Are Devastating Parts Of The State
Kansas experienced severe weather with tornadoes in the east and wildfires in the west, leading to evacuations and emergency responses.
Monday proved to be a terrifying day for residents of Kansas. Nearly every corner of the state experienced extreme weather; eastern Kansas saw tornadoes and severe thunderstorms while western Kansas dealt with terrible wildfires. Here’s more on these devastating events and the fires that continue to rage through the state:
Firefighters have been working tirelessly to combat rampant wildfires in western Kansas.
The below map shows the areas affected by what has been classified as a "wildfire outbreak."
The drop in temperatures on Monday created strong winds that fueled the flames, creating a situation that is both dangerous and difficult to control.
The Kansas Department of Emergency has called for residents in affected areas to evacuate their homes.
Thousands were forced to pack up their belongings and report to the nearest safety shelter as conditions worsened overnight.
The largest wildfire originated in Oklahoma and has burned into Kansas.
The areas affected by this particular fire are Meade County and Beaver County.
Neighboring states of Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska are also under warning as conditions could make these areas prone to wildfires as well.
The Kansas Department of Emergency Management has been seeking additional help from other states as well as the National Forestry Service.
We are grateful for the officials working to control these fires and our thoughts and prayers go out to anyone who might have been affected by the disastrous wildfires or storms.
