10 Stunning Spots In Kansas Where Nothing Spoils Our Endless Skies
Kansas offers magical skies and stunning sunsets at various scenic spots.
Living in Kansas, you become attached to seeing far and wide, as well as the skies above you every day. There's just something so magical about watching a storm roll across the plains so far away that you'll never see rain, or watching a sunset fill the entire sky with colors you feel like you've never seen. Kansas' endless skies are magical, and these 10 spots more than prove that.
1. Milford Lake
Milford Lake is a wonderful place for sailing, and sunsets reflecting off the water are full of charm and Kansas color.
2. Wilson Lake
Wilson Lake is an excellent spot for camping as well as stargazing. With any luck, you can see plenty of stars on clear nights over the lake as well as a stunning sunset beforehand.
3. Any of our wonderful wheat fields in the summer.
Watching a storm move across the fields is a treat we love seeing as Kansans, especially when we really need the rain.
4. Mt. Sunflower
Mt. Sunflower is of course not a real mountain, but the area in all directions from it is flat as can be, and perfect for viewing our endless skies.
5. Teter Rock
Teter rock is a fun place for a photo with family, but there's also a breathtaking view of sky over our hills behind and around it. Just look for yourself!
6. Clinton Lake
Clinton Lake seems to reflect sunsets and sunrises the best, because most of our favorite photos of it are sunset reflections. Can a Kansas lake really be this beautiful? Of course!
7. Dawson Lake and the Baker Wetlands
If you've never visited the Baker Wetlands, may I be the first to tell you that they are simply magical. Everything seems to reflect off the water, and the nearby Dawson Lake is doubly shiny. Seeing Kansas' sunsets duplicated is something we all should experience at least once in person.
8. The Flint Hills
The flint hills are indeed a little hilly, but they don't get in the way of any of our beautiful sky. They somehow make it even better.
9. Sunflower Fields
I'm not saying you have to wait in line at Grinter Farms, but a sunflower field can be the perfect setting for any of our favorite sky scenes. Sunflowers make everything better in Kansas.
10. Quivira National Wildlife Refuge
This gorgeous wildlife refuge is a mostly flat area with only grasses below your favorite skies on earth. When the birds flock, you'll find yourself staring for hours on end just watching them pass through the painted skies.
