The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail in northern Indiana spans 16.5 miles and connects communities between Goshen and Shipshewana. It is a paved path that is perfect for all sorts of outdoor adventures.
The trail follows the abandoned Penn Central line and is named for the Pumpkin Vine Railroad, which was built in 1888. It was thus named due to all the turns in the path.
No matter the time of year, this excellent greenway is available daily from dawn until dusk. Come out during winter and build a snowman, make snow angels, or just marvel at all the ice crystals.
No matter the season, you'll find gorgeous views, wildlife, winding paths, parks, meadows, forests, and so much more of the great outdoors. Biking, running, dog-walking, cross-country skiing, and other activities are best here.
There are many interesting things to see and do along this year-round greenway trail. Access points can be found in every town it passes, most of which are through parks. In addition to Goshen and Shipshewana, it also touches Middlebury and Elkhart.
The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail is a wonderful place to host events, and there are several that take place annually. Bike rides, bird walks, dinners, group runs, and nature tours keep locals coming back time and again.
