Experience The Indiana Hike That Leads You Through A Covered Bridge And Pristine Meadows

Hidden in Fort Wayne, Indiana, behind a little place known as Life Bridge Church, there's a trailhead that leads to awe-inspiring sights that, somehow, I haven't yet covered - but I intend to remedy that today. This trailhead is the start of a unique hike in Indiana that's become much-beloved amongst the locals. Honestly, the views and the meadows you'll wander through make this hike worthy of a day trip for - perhaps you'll agree! Come on out to the Pufferbelly Trail, an amazing Indiana hiking trail with meadows, a covered bridge, and oh so much chill. 

Though part of Pufferbelly Trail meanders through residential areas, don't let this fool you - this hike is stunning.

Coming in at six and a half miles long following a brand-new extension unveiled in November 2023, this hike is pretty easy and makes for an awesome day out for just about everyone.

No matter what time of year you hike it, you're sure to be thrilled by the beauty of the world around you.

In the spring and into summer, wildflowers abound, with plenty of photo opportunities that you'll want to stop time and time again to capture.

In the fall, everything comes alight with color again as the reds and golds of a coming winter arrive.

For the most part, it's a flat trek; over the whole 6.5 miles, you'll experience a total elevation gain of 127 feet.

Along the way, you'll encounter this gorgeous old covered bridge - a lovely time capsule from our state's past.

It's especially beautiful when framed by a blue sky and lush, green plant life. The red of the bridge contrasts with the rest of the scene perfectly, and it all looks like something out of a Thomas Kinkade painting.

There are several unique points of interest as you go.

You'll find yourself drawn to various features and quirks of the hike, I think - probably enough so that it might just take longer than the two hours they say it "should" take.

Besides, who are "they" anyway? They can't tell us how to experience something like this.

Every hiking trail tells a story, and this one is no different. Lace up your best hiking shoes, get you some water, pack a camera, and let's go!
