Everyone In indiana Must Visit This Epic Waterfall As Soon As Possible
Indiana's Cataract Falls, the state's largest waterfall by volume, offers breathtaking hiking and sightseeing opportunities.
Indiana might be considered a fairly flat state (and let's face it, for the most part it is), but that doesn't stop our fair state from having some pretty awesome natural wonders. Indiana is home to a large selection of naturally occurring waterfalls, that offer some pretty amazing hiking and sightseeing. While all of these waterfalls are breathtaking, Cataract Falls in Owen County is one waterfall that every Hoosier has to visit at least once.
Cataract Falls is composed of two sets of falls that drop into Mill Creek creating a cascade of nearly 80 ft, making this waterfall the state's largest waterfall (by volume). Located in Lieber State Recreation Area, you can easily visit this waterfall by paying a $7 vehicle entry fee.
You can start your journey to the falls by entering the beautifully restored Cataract Falls Covered Bridge. This bridge was built in 1876 and was restored and reopened in 1995.
Once you near the falls, the view is absolutely exquisite! You can see both falls and get up close to the action to better enjoy the intricacies of this wonder.
Hike up closer to enjoy special view of each of these two falls.
The upper part of Cataract Falls is just as incredible as the lower half. Of course, depending on the time of year and water flow, you might experience a calmer waterfall, as opposed to a rushing cascade. Check the weather and reviews for the best time to visit.
Whether you travel alone to enjoy the serenity, with kids to show them the wonders of their home state, or with a friend or spouse, Cataract Falls is the perfect way to spend a day in Indiana. You'll leave feeling a little more inspired, in awe, and a bit more appreciative of the wonders of the natural world.
You absolutely have to make a trip to Cataract Falls to appreciate the beauty firsthand. Has anyone here ever visited the falls before? What did you think of them?
