Hiding in LaPorte, Indiana is a gorgeous 350(ish)-acre hidden gem of a farm that's perfect for a family day out, a first date, or anything else your heart can imagine. It's absolutely gorgeous, and believe it or not, it's been in the same family for six generations now! It's the Garwood Orchard, and every single month there are new in-season fruits, veggies, and more available to come to pick and choose - literally! This wonderful u-pick fruit farm in Indiana is a perfect way to spend some time outside and have an excellent adventure while you do so.
This beautiful u-pick farm in Indiana known as Garwood Orchards is is actually the John Garwood Homestead, which was originally established in or around 1831.
The 350 acres includes 200 acres of apples and 150 acres of peaches, pumpkins, raspberries, strawberries, cherries, and so much more - it just depends on what time of year you visit!
You'll be amazed by the size and health of these juicy fruits you'll be able to select and harvest yourself.
Wondering when to show up for what? The website has a very handy page in which it spells out everything that's in season for every month - it's very helpful.
During the summer - in June, July, and August, you can expect to find strawberries, cherries, pickles, and blackberries (among other things).
In fall, folks typically return for the famed autumn harvest that consists of (once again, among other things) pumpkins, apples, blackberries, peppers and more. But there really is no bad time to come out - unless, of course, it's the dead of winter. Just wait 'til spring!
Interested in tours? You'll have to wait until September, but the wait is oh-so-worth it!
From early September until early October, Garwood Orchards offers awesome school and group tours for parties of 20 or more. You must book in advance from May until August.
But honestly, I just recommend showing up during u-pick hours and exploring that way. The farm is beautiful, and you'll be charmed by every square inch.
U-pick is hosted every day, seven days a week. From Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m..
If you've never experienced the freshest fruit in the world thanks to having picked it yourself, you absolutely need to.
For more information, including a detailed history and lists of what's in season (and when), be sure to visit the official Garwood Orchards website. What do you hope to find at Garwood Orchards? And which do you like more: fresh-picked apples or fresh-picked peaches? Let me know!
