The Enchanting Cataract Falls In Indiana Is One Of The Best Places To Enjoy Autumn
Autumn in Indiana is an amazingly magical time, filled with brilliant color, crisp, cool air, and all the traditions your heart could ever long for. There are numerous places throughout the Hoosier State that are utterly amazing at this time of year, and many of them are totally perfect for really experiencing it, such as its state parks and/or its many waterfalls. Seriously, if you've never experienced fall in Indiana at one of its many natural wonders, you need to... ASAP. Check out Cataract Falls, for example - one of Indiana's most jaw-dropping landscapes surrounded by incredible color.
Hidden in beautiful Owen County is an enchanting slice of paradise that Hoosiers typically know about... but nobody else.
It's a jaw-dropping favorite among the locals thanks to its storybook appearance; it's like something from a fairy tale.
Cataract Falls is the largest waterfall in Indiana by volume.
It consists of two falls, one mile apart - Upper Cataract Falls and Lower Cataract Falls. Both are astonishing in the summer, when everything is lush and green.
And you know what that means: come fall, these trees are going to be ablaze with color.
Don't get me wrong: the rest of Lieber State Recreation Area is enchanting, but the falls are undoubtedly the best part.
It's especially serene on the off chance that you get it to yourself - which is entirely possible, should you show up on a weekday nice and early in the morning.
It'll no doubt be chilly, so dress warm - it's sweater season! Might as well enjoy it, right?
One of the biggest disservices you can do for yourself is to rush it or, heaven forbid, skip it altogether.
Yes, the falls are a mile apart - but it's an amazing hike!
Speaking of hikes, there are numerous excellent ones to be experienced in this area.
Our friends at AllTrails have an excellent breakdown of each one, including a map, and it's definitely worth the effort! This might just be the most beautiful hiking area in Indiana, and better still...
...you'll have to come back in a few months to experience it during winter, too.
