1. Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge

This southern Indiana nature attraction is home to swans, eagles, cranes, ducks, warblers, and many other birds of all sizes. This 7,700-acre area is full of lakes and marshes, making it excellent for waterfowl. There are several short trails throughout.

2. Kankakee Fish And Wildlife Area

This 4,000-acre area is nestled at the confluence of the Kankakee and Yellow rivers and is home to geese, woodpeckers, wrens, and warblers. Though half of the area is marshland, there is still plenty of it to explore on foot.

3. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

This popular area is frequented by migratory birds as well as wintering birds due to the large expanse of shoreline. The diverse ecosystem is fun to explore and houses hawks, woodpeckers, loons, warblers, and more.

4. Potato Creek State Park

Bird watchers enjoy finding wrens, cranes, ducks, hawks, sparrows, eagles, and other gorgeous birds at this lesser-known state park. It is full of excellent trails that take you throughout the area.

5. Pokagon State Park

This northeastern park is full of activities, and one you can enjoy there is definitely birding. Naturally, while walking around the place, you'll spot bluebirds, eagles, cranes, woodpeckers, and more.

6. Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area

Cranes are the dominant species found at this 8,000-acre wetland area. More than 10,000 cranes stop here during their migration each fall, making it an ideal place to watch them.

7. Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area

Composed of 11,000 acres, this diverse ecosystem consists of swamps and woodlands. Some of the birds that call it home are hawks, cranes, wrens, warblers, sparrows, and rails.
