The Magic Of The Dunes Is Apparent On This Amazing Beach Hike In Indiana
Indiana Dunes National Park is an amazing place filled with wonder and amazement just begging to be explored. Lucky for us, I just so happen to know about all the coolest hikes, sights, and other things you'll want to make your adventure the best ever, and today I'd like to highlight a trail I adore that folks overlook all too often. The Cowles Bog Trail is a much-beloved hike within the park that lots of people enjoy, but did you know there's another way to enjoy it that doesn't involve doubling back to access more of the beach? I feel like this is one of the best hikes in Indiana, and if you do it, I suspect you'll agree.
Indiana Dunes National Park has the special distinction of being Indiana's first National Park, and I think that's perfect because it's truly unique.
It's a step above all the other parks around the Hoosier State, and it absolutely guarantees one heck of an amazing adventure once you arrive - no matter what trail(s) you choose to explore.
The Bally Beach Trail utilizes a good chunk of the amazing Cowles Bog Trail to add just a little extra magic to your next hiking trip.
It's worth mentioning, though, that this amazing hike tends to be a little bug-heavy, so be sure to wear appropriate, breathable clothes and plenty of your best bug spray. Ticks might also be a concern, particularly in the summer, so make sure Fido is prepared as well should you choose to bring him along.
To say the views on this amazing hiking trail are to die for is to understate things a smidge.
As you work your way through woodlands, Cowles Bog, and another natural features you'll find yourself feeling particularly calm and cool while also maintaining a sense of exquisite wonder. It's incredibly beautiful and the moment you first see Lake Michigan along the way your breath is sure to be taken away.
Welcome to Bally Beach, a stunningly beautiful Indiana beach unlike the others in many ways.
The hike to this amazing beach can be popular at times, but if you arrive early in the morning during the week you have the best chances at getting it mostly to yourself.
Should you choose not to stop and smell the roses (or admire the dunes), the hike ought to take under two hours...
...but what's the fun in that? I say we stop as many times as we feel like, savoring the entire experience, and allow ourselves to fall in love with Indiana's amazing landscapes all over again.
Wear comfortable shoes you don't mind getting a little sandy or muddy and let's go.
Indiana awaits!
