Located on the bluffs off the Illinois River in La Salle County, Starved Rock State Park sees many, many visitors each year--from Illinois and from across the world. The park is repeatedly voted the best attraction in Illinois. With one visit here, it is easy to see why. It just doesn't look like the rest of Illinois.
Occupying over 2,630 acres, Starved Rock State Park features 18 canyons, waterfalls, and 13 miles of trails for you to explore the park however you like.
These pictures certainly do not fully capture this amazing park, but we want to highlight some of the best parts.
1. Especially beautiful at fall, this shot of the trees conceals the awesomeness within the park itself.
2. There are plenty of vantage points to take this wonderful park in.
3. This shot from the canyon below captures just how geologically interesting this place is.
4. There is plenty of water cascading down.
5. It looks magical with that tree strewn across.
6. You can bring your best friend with you.
7. You might want to leave some best friends behind.
8. It might even be more amazing to explore in the winter.
9. You never know which majestic creatures you will run into.
10. The St. Louis Canyon waterfall is the prize of the park.
11. There are those bluffs we were talking about.
12. There are certainly some trails for the more adventurous, but there are trails for all abilities.
13. It's a wonderful place to find solace by yourself, but it's even better to explore with someone you love.
