If you are a fan of the movie "March of the Penguins," you no doubt love all of those adorable penguins. Each has its own distinctive personality and its own role in the lifecycle of the species. But have you ever wondered what it might be like to stroll around with them like some researchers get to do in their work? Well, now you can by embarking upon the Penguin Encounter at the Shedd Aquarium. Come along as we show you how to get up close and personal with these beautiful birds.
Unlike popular belief about where penguins live, it is not at the North Pole.
They live in southernmost South America and Antarctica. But you can see them right here in Chicago!
You may have heard about these beautiful birds on the news.
The Shedd Aquarium penguins became famous in 2020 during the pandemic when they were caught on film walking around the aquarium like any other visitors.
Just look at those adorable faces!
At the Shedd, one of the best animal adventure spots in Illinois, you'll find two species of penguins – The Magellanic and The Rockhopper.
And while here, you can receive an up-close-and-personal experience with them.
And that would be by embarking upon a special Penguin Encounter. During the experience, you will learn the history of these fascinating creatures ...
... and about bonded pair Edward and Annie who are definitely among the crowd favorites.
During the encounter, you will get to touch a penguin, engage with one of the penguin care specialists, and yes, take a selfie if you would like!
Admission to the aquarium is included in the price of the Penguin Encounter.
Participants must be at least 6 years old, and ages 6-17 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
