Climb Stairs To This State Park Overlook In Illinois And You Can See For Miles

Pere Marquette State Park is a bucket-list-worthy destination for nature lovers. This is one of the largest state parks in Illinois with up to 8,000 acres to explore. While there are several ways to see all that this state park has to offer, one of our favorites is on a hike and there’s nothing quite like the McAdams Peak Trail.

The McAdams Peak Trail is a 1.9-mile loop trail located near the Illinois River. It’s an excellent trail if you want to explore but don’t have a lot of time.

While the trail is less than two miles total, it isn’t going to be an easy journey. This trail is considered moderate in difficulty as there are a few challenging portions and it can be rocky and muddy in areas.

However, the trail is absolutely beautiful. You will walk through forested areas that not only make you feel tucked away from the rest of the world, but the trees can provide some much-needed shade on hot days.

I particularly love this trail during the fall months when the leaves reach their peak.

During this time of the year, the vibrant fall foliage is going to take your breath away.

The trail is fairly easy to follow but you’ll want to watch your step. As you continue your climb, you’ll have some stairs built into the trail that you’ll have to conquer …

… as well as wooden stairs. But every step will be worth it to reach the views. You can see for miles at the overlook.

You’ll enjoy beautiful river views and gorgeous skies. We suggest you bring a camera because this isn’t a scene you’ll want to soon forget.

Seriously, does it get any better than this?
