Located in western Idaho and approximately 60 miles from Boise, you will find Bruneau Dunes State Park. This beautiful 4,800-acre state park is a destination the entire family will enjoy and a must-visit destination for any bucket list.
This state park in Idaho is home to the tallest free-standing sand dune in North America. This dune reaches up to 470 feet, and exploring it is just one of the many things you can do at this Idaho park.
If you want a thrill, head to the Visitor Center Nature Store where you can rent a sandboard and soar down the sand dunes.
There are two boarding options available at the park’s visitor center: stand-up and sled. This is a great way to enjoy the sand dunes, and it is an activity the entire family can experience together.
If you want to explore the sand dunes in a much calmer way, go on a hike. While there are several trails you can tackle, one that you’ll want to consider is the Bruneau Dunes Loop.
This 2.3-mile loop trail is difficult at times, but unforgettable. The trail takes you up a steep sand dune, and while it may challenge you, you’ll receive beautiful lake and sand dune views.
Bruneau Dunes State Park is one of the best parks in Idaho all year long, especially if you plan to stay for a few days. This park offers one of the longest camping seasons in Idaho, and you’ll find several accommodation options.
In total there are 82 serviced campsites, 35 standard campsites, and two ADA campsites within this state park.
And while there are numerous year-round camping opportunities for tents and RVs, there are also small cabins that are perfect for the entire family.
Comfortably sleeping up to five individuals and featuring air conditioning and heating units, large front porches, and more, these cabins are a comfortable place to stay for an escape into nature.
It doesn’t matter the weather outside, Bruneau Dunes State Park in Idaho is filled with adventure. Between the sandboarding, hiking, camping, and exploring, you'll be glad you visited.
