It seems that Idaho is constantly coming up with exciting new attractions to indulge in when summer hits. The park featured below opened just a couple years ago and it's quickly become one of the most popular places to be during the summer months. Not only does the park boast a fun beach that's perfect for lounging on, but a paddling pond as well. "What's a paddling pond?" you may ask. Keep reading to find out!
Located in Boise's West End, Esther Simplot Park officially opened to the public just two years ago. It may be a relatively new addition to the community, but it's quickly become one of the best places to be when the weather is nice and the sun is out.
The 55-acre park is a beauty. There's no denying that. The construction of the park was meant to enhance this small section of the Boise River and turn it into something bright and new. The park does the job perfectly.
Complete with walking areas, picnic areas, playgrounds, and a nice little beach, there's really something for everyone here at the park. On a summer day, you'll see the beach packed with people enjoying the 17-acre Simplot Pond. However, what exactly makes this park a paddler's paradise?
When the park was constructed, waterways were specifically designed with paddleboarders and kayakers in mind. The waterways form an actual path in between the Simplot ponds and nearby Quinn's Pond.
The pond can be described as a giant outdoor playground. Idaho River Sports is located at the park's entrance and provides rentals for paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, rafts, and more. They also host paddling and kayaking classes and even SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) Yoga and Fitness classes. All skill levels are welcome!
All in all, Esther Simplot Park connects a myriad of different parks and ponds in the area. It's the perfect starting point for your next big river adventure this summer.
Entrance into the park doesn't cost a thing. They even provide life jacket loaner stations for your convenience. The park is truly an amazing addition to the community and makes for a cheap way to create some unforgettable memories.
This summer may be only the second summer that the park has existed, but there's no denying its place in the Boise community. This delightful paddling pond is sure to be a treasured gem for years to come.
You'll find Esther Simplot Park at 3206 W Pleasanton Ave, Boise, ID 83702.
