Hiding in Central Idaho is a mesmerizing little hike that packs in a ton of serene backcountry beauty from beginning to end. The trail itself is stunning, but you'll eventually end up at the idyllic Jerry Johnson Hot Springs. It's the perfect reward after this lovely hike!
The hike, known as the Warm Springs Trail, can be found within the Clearwater National Forest. The trailhead serves as access to both the Selway Bitterrot Wilderness and Jerry Johnson Hot Springs. You can find it located at about an hour and a half from Kooskia, along the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway.
The trail is just two miles long and mostly flat, making it the perfect adventure for even those who don't consider themselves seasoned hikers.
The trailhead is super easy to find, considering it can be located at the breathtaking pack bridge that crosses over the Lochsa River. This is definitely not a bad way to start off a hike! You won't be able to resist grabbing a few pictures of this delightful hidden bridge.
You'll then follow the trail as it meanders along Warm Springs Creek and through a cedar forest. It won't be long before you come across the gold at the end of the rainbow: Jerry Johnson Hot Springs. There are several soaking pools to choose from, all tucked right against the creek.
The warm pools are the perfect way to unwind after the brief hike while taking in the utter beauty of this little-known slice of Idaho. You could spend the entire day relaxing and soaking up the jaw-dropping scenery.
Keep in mind that there is no overnight camping at Jerry Johnson Hot Springs and the trail is limited to day-use only.
