Enjoy Cool, Crisp Water That Is Tucked Away In The Mountains In Idaho
Alice Lake in Idaho offers a challenging hike with stunning scenery and cool, crisp water perfect for a summer adventure.
Summer in Idaho is the perfect time to head to the lake. Regardless of whether you choose a large lake with miles of shoreline or a hidden lake, these are extraordinary places to spend a hot summer day. Alice Lake is one Idaho destination where you can cool off, enjoy blue water, and experience majestic scenery. However, to enjoy all that Alice Lake has to offer, you will have quite a bit of a climb to conquer.
Alice Lake is tucked away in the Sawtooth National Forest, not far from the small town of Stanley. One of the best ways to reach this lake is on the Tin Cup Hiker Loop Trail. You will find this trailhead at the Petite Lake Campground.
This is not a short journey. If you complete the Tin Cup Hiker Trail in its entirety, you will trek more than 20 miles. However, depending on the direction you choose to go, you can reach the lake without the extensive distance — just turn around once you reach the lake. Many individuals choose to explore this trail on a two or three-day backpacking trip.
The hike to Alice Lake is quite strenuous and steep. Alice Lake is 8,600 feet above sea level, so you will have quite the climb ahead of you.
However, it is easy to forget about these challenging areas as you will be blown away by the beauty of this area. You will see small waterfalls, beautiful forests, remarkable mountain views, and more.
It is wise to bring along a pair of water shoes as there are multiple water crossings on this trail.
Once you reach Alice Lake, you’ll fall in love with Idaho's beauty. The lake is nestled in the mountains and you’ll capture the most majestic views of El Capitan while you sit along the shore.
Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the lake. You can even hop in and enjoy the cool and crisp water if you desire.
Be aware that due to the high elevation of this lake, the water remains cold well into the summer. In fact, it isn’t uncommon to see a frozen lake in the middle of summer.
When you are searching for cold, crisp water to enjoy during the summer in Idaho, there’s no doubt that Alice Lake is the winner. But, are you ready for the climb?
