Whether you are an experienced hiker or you are working to become one, this trail in Idaho must be on your bucket list.
Cervidae Peak is in the Boise Mountains, north of Lucky Peak State Park. This peak is unique because it is one of the four that make up the Grand Slam.
The Grand Slam is a collection of four peaks near Boise that many hikers work hard to tackle. The four peaks that make up the Grand Slam are Mount Heinen, Kepros, Cervidae, and Lucky Peak/Shaw Mountain.
To reach this mountain peak, it’s not an easy climb. In fact, the Cervidae Peak Trail is considered quite hard and challenging. You will climb nearly 2,000 feet in elevation in approximately two miles.
This trail is just over two miles, one-way. However, despite the short distance, you’ll still want to give yourself plenty of time to climb it.
Cervidae Peak Trail is open year-round. However, if hiking in the summer months, make sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat as there is little shade. In the winter, you may want spikes and traction devices due to snow and icy areas along your way.
Fortunately, your path is typically quite easy to follow. This is a fairly busy trail, so pay attention to other hikers as you climb.
Once you reach Cervidae Peak, celebrate, and then look all around you. The views are one of a kind and mesmerizing.
On clear days, you can see for miles. Look around as you'll spot unique features such as Thorn Creek Butte, Mount Heinan, Sunset Peak, Pilot Peak, and Shafer Butte.
Even in the winter, you’ll be in awe of the views at the peak and along the trail. The wintery landscape will make you fall in love with Idaho all over again.
Once you’ve recovered, head back down the trail. Just make sure you don’t leave without capturing this remarkable view on your camera.
