Discover Summer’s Best Kept Secret At This Stunning Swimming Spot In Hawaii

While Hawaii certainly does not have a shortage of pristine, white sand beaches or man-made, oceanfront pools for us to choose from, occasionally we crave something a little more adventurous – like swimming holes, waterfalls, and ocean-fed tide pools. In honor of the perfect summer spent in the water, we’re talking about one of the best summer swimming spots in Hawaii: Shark’s Cove.

Located on Oahu’s north shore, Sharks Cove is known for its crystalline water, impressive sea life, and positively enchanting tide pools.

During the summer months when the waves are calmer, this is easily one of the best snorkeling spots on Oahu, but for some reason, people keep flocking to Hanauma Bay, Three Tables, and Electric Beach instead.

Despite it’s name, you won’t find dangerous sharks in this protected cove: the picturesque snorkeling spot received its name from a popular story that says the outline of the reef outside the cove looks like the silhouette of a shark from above. However, the area surrounding the cove is home to white-tipped reef sharks.

It is also said that the jagged lava rocks you’ll find here can do as much damage as a shark’s tooth - so please be careful and wear proper footwear.

The entrance to the water is rocky, and you will find countless spectacular rock formations below the water’s surface, including coral arches, sea caves and impressive lava tunnels.

You’ll also find Hawaiian green sea turtles, and a variety of tropical and colorful fish in the cove, which ranges in depth from just two feet to more than thirty.

Part of Pupukea Beach Park and a surrounding 80-acre Marine Life Conservation District, Shark’s Cove is pure heaven for those of all skill levels.

In addition to the epic snorkeling and diving you’ll find at Shark’s Cove, the nearby Pupukea tide pools are perfect for young adventurers, and there is also a cliff jumping spot ideal for beginners who want the thrill of jumping without the massive height.
