The Largest, Most Secluded Beach In Hawaii Absolutely Needs To Be On Your Island Bucket List
Papohaku Beach on Molokai is one of Hawaii's longest and most secluded beaches, offering a serene tropical paradise.
With approximately 750 miles of stunning coastline, the Hawaiian Islands are easily home to some of the world’s best beaches. From tiny coves to mile-long stretches of sand, these beaches come in a variety of sizes. But which of Hawaii’s countless incredible beaches is the longest? There’s Oahu’s Waimanalo and Kauai’s Polihale, but our favorite is Papohaku Beach, located on the western tip of Molokai. We bet you didn’t think that one of Hawaii’s longest beaches would be found on one of the smallest of the archipelago’s main islands, did you?
Measuring nearly three miles long - and 100 yards wide - Papohaku is not only the largest beach on Molokai but it is easily one of the longest beaches in Hawaii.
Also known as "Three Mile Beach" for obvious reasons, Papohaku is relatively secluded, despite its well-known status.
Truthfully, this Molokai beach is probably the closest you will ever get to the deserted tropical island paradise you’ve been dreaming of.
The shore break can be dangerous and because the beach isn’t protected by an offshore reef, this secluded beach is best for a long walk along the shore, rather than any crazy watersports.
The beach was once home to a sand mining operation - and various military training exercises took place here during World War II.
You might even catch a glimpse of Oahu over the Kaiwi Channel. Just past Diamond Head in the distance is Waikiki, where sand from Papohaku was brought years ago in an attempt to build up its shores.
This stunning stretch of fine, white sand is sandwiched between the beautiful Pacific Ocean on one side, and low sand dunes and thorny kiawe trees on the other.
Three miles of sand isn’t all you’ll find here, though: there are campsites, picnic areas, indoor and outdoor showers, and bathroom facilities.
Whether you want to get away from the world and relax, or catch some world-class waves, Papohaku Beach seems to go on for miles - probably because it does.
