Picture this: The sun is shining. The birds are singing a sweet melody. The wind floats through the trees, tussling leaves about. Not a sight or sound for miles that isn't pure bliss. You are surrounded by vibrant, endless color. This is what it is like when you visit Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia, a little-known oasis that is seemingly straight out of a fairytale.

This public garden located in Harris county sits on over 14,000 acres in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains

The purpose of these gardens was “to connect man and nature in a way that benefits both.”

Cason J. Callaway and wife Virginia had an unspeakable bond with this particular land in 1930.

After a picnic with some friends near a clear blue pond in Harris County, they felt a desire to purchase land and invest in their own little slice of heaven.

Callaway and his wife purchased 2,500 acres of land and eventually turned this natural oasis into a place which could be loved by all.

In 1952, Callaway Gardens opened to the public, and since then millions of visitors have visited to find solace and beauty.

However, most people outside of Georgia do not know that this hidden gem even exists!

It is absolutely worth it to spend a day if you have never been, observing the splendor of the azaleas, or smelling the sweet scent of a sea of magnolias.

You can even spend the day sitting inside the butterfly habitat, watching the beautiful creatures flutter in flight.

Or you can hit the trails either by walking or biking, as the garden has several to choose from.

But no matter what you choose to do at Callaway Gardens…

….be prepared to always be left in complete awe and total relaxation.
