This Marvelous 4-Mile Trail in Georgia Leads Adventurers to Some Amazing Views

With pretty water views and lush greenery, the Sandpiper Trail belongs on your list. This Skidaway Island State Park Hike is full of adventure!

When most people go hiking in Georgia, they stick to the northern regions of the state, where the land is more mountainous. But to ignore South Georgia and our coastal plains is a mistake! Sure, this area of the Peach State is much flatter and may lack the inclines you'll find close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, but that doesn't mean there aren't great views to enjoy. One of our favorite state parks in the lower half of the state is the magnificent Skidaway Island State Park. This 588-acre preserve is just outside of Savannah and features some pretty amazing scenery. There are several excellent trails here, but one of the best ways to enjoy the park is to combine several trails into one and take the Sandpiper, Avian, and Big Ferry Loop Trail. The easy Skidaway Island State Park hike is one of our favorite family-friendly hikes in Georgia and you’ll want to experience it for yourself.

When the trails are combined, they measure just over 4 miles. There's very little elevation gain, so it's a pretty easy trail despite the length being a little longer than your typical nature walk. The views are absolutely magnificent!

Is there anything better than the scenery in a Georgia marsh, especially during sunset? You're going to want to have your camera ready to snap pics for your collection.

Bird lovers, keep your eyes peeled - this is one of the coolest parks around for bird watching. Although much of the trail is shaded, there are several open areas where you'll be in direct sunlight.

Make sure to wear insect repellent and sunscreen! Do note that if you visit after heavy rain or at high tide, the trail can get pretty muddy, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear.

Fortunately, Skidaway Island State Park also has miles of fantastic biking trails if you feel like experiencing the beauty of the area with the wind in your hair, rather than on foot.

Diverse, beautiful, family-friendly...this is such a magnificent state park to explore! For more information on the incredible offerings found at this park (Sandpiper Trail included), check out the Skidaway Island State Park website or give Skidaway Island Park a follow on Facebook.
