If you've moved on from easy nature trails and simple boardwalk hikes, there are plenty of more challenging hikes in the Peach State just waiting to be enjoyed! One of our favorites is the Wildcat Creek Loop Trail in the Dawson Forest Wildlife Management Area. This is no easy jaunt through the woods - it takes a little over five hours for most skilled hikers to complete it, and it's considered to be of challenging difficulty. However, the great views you'll get to see make it one of our favorite waterfall hikes in Georgia. Check it out - it's quite the adventure:
Note that anyone over the age of 16 entering the property needs to have a valid hunting license, fishing license, or Georgia Lands Pass to enter this area, even if you're not planning on hunting or fishing.
Licenses can be purchased from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources website.
This is a great hike, but thanks to the 10.4-mile length and licensure requirements, the trail isn't nearly as well-traveled as many others in North Georgia.
That means if you're looking for seclusion surrounded by nothing but nature and peace and quiet, this is definitely the spot!
The waterfall is the perfect place for a picnic and quick break as you explore the lengthy trail.
This is an incredibly stunning area. You'll come across a few water crossings, and downed trees to scamper over are not uncommon either.
The creek and waterfall make for a perfect place to cool off if you get too tired - but note that the water here is quite cold!
The scenery here looks straight out of a fairy tale, and it's definitely worthy of an adventure if you're up for the challenge.
