I Hiked The Loop At Celery Fields In Florida For An Exceptional Vantage Point
When it comes to being outside in nature, everyone has their own favorite places to go, right? For instance, when I think about my favorite hiking trails in Florida, Celery Fields in Sarasota always comes to mind. Not only is there such an intense elevation change on this loop (my calves hate me), but the views from the top always make it worth it. I recently hiked this loop again with my pup, and it was just as beautiful as I remembered it.
One of my favorite places to hike in Sarasota is at Celery Fields, which features a 0.9-mile loop with some seriously beautiful views.
Originally developed in the early 20th century for agricultural purposes, (specifically celery farming) the area has since been transformed into a vast, 360-acre wetland.
Today, visitors to Celery Fields often fall into a few categories: those looking to get in some solid cardio, exercise their pet, indulge in nature, or catch a rare bird or two!
The park features an impressive loop trail, which winds up and around the hill, offering up a wonderfully serene hike, and some stellar views from the top.
I opted to bring my dog, as he loves a good hike. It should be noted that there isn’t a ton of shade here, so if you’re bringing a fur friend make sure to avoid midday during summertime, and always bring a bowl for water.
There is a water station at the beginning of the trail near the restrooms, that you can fill up before and after.
I mentioned birdwatching, too, which is always fun when I’m at Celery Fields. This past hike, I was nearly eye-level with a hawk, who was just gently coasting on the thermals in the air.
Over 220 bird species have been recorded here, including sandhill cranes, roseate spoonbills, and various types of herons and egrets!
While one loop on the trail does take about 15-20 minutes mostly, I recommend stopping at any of the benches at the top of the vista to sit and take it all in. Watching the sun shimmer off the celery pools below is always worth the stop.
My dog had a great time, and while we could only complete one loop due to the rising temperatures of the afternoon, we both got in a good workout.
Open year-round, enjoy a unique hiking trail in Sarasota, Florida, when you check out the loop at Celery Fields.
