5 Hikes With the Best Sunset Views in Florida

Full disclosure: I am not a morning person. So, if I had to choose between sunrise or sunset, the sunset wins every time. The colors dancing across the sky at golden hour are truly mesmerizing and nourishing for our souls. Fortunately, I live in the Sunshine State, and we are blessed with the most enchanting sunsets on the planet. While in Florida, we can easily walk outside and witness the explosion of colors in the sky, but I have a better idea! Let’s check out these sunset hikes in Florida instead. Not only will you witness the magical hour, but you will burn calories, too. I consider that a win-win, and I promise these hikes will be well worth it!

For these treks, you can leave your hiking boots at home and lace up those sturdy walking shoes instead. 1. Mala Compra Trail, Palm Coast

• Location: Washington Oaks Gardens State Park
• Length: 1.1 Miles
• Difficulty: Easy

There are many reasons to visit Washington Oaks Garden State Park. With the lovely gardens, the coquina rock formations, the serene hiking trails, and the beach along the Matanzas River, you can easily spend an entire day here. And I recommend that you do and stay until the sun sets in the sky. Watch the magic from the banks of the river or marvel at the rays as they burst through the oak tree branches on the Mala Compra Trail. The multi-use trail is short, easy, and kid-friendly, and it meanders through tree canopies and coastal shrubs with incredible water views. 

2. Topsail Hill Morris Lake Trail, Santa Rosa Beach

• Location: Topsail Hill Preserve State Park
• Length: 4.6 Miles
• Difficulty: Easy

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is one of the most underrated parks in Florida. But the good news is, you might have the hiking trails all to yourself. Here, you can trek the Topsail Hill Morris Lake Trail, leading to miles and miles of powdery sandy beaches that come alive with golden hues at sunset. There is a network of trails inside the park, meandering past lakes, semi-tropical plants, pines, and sand dunes. Portions of the trails are sandy, so wear shoes made for softer surfaces. Bring lots of water for this trek, especially while hiking in warmer months.  

3. Henderson Beach Nature Trail, Destin  

• Location: Henderson Beach State Park
• Length: 0.7 Miles
• Difficulty: Easy

The first time I saw a sunset in Destin, it was pure magic! The shades of colors that paint the sky over the small fishing city are unlike anything that I’ve ever seen. Chances are, when you watch the jaw-dropping scene from Henderson Beach Nature Trail, you’ll be smitten, too. The easy Emerald Coast hike is great for the entire family, including the pup, but keep the doggies on their leash. This trail is sandy, and you’ll come across gorgeous pine, oak trees, and beautiful coastal scrub. Wildlife is plentiful here, too, so be on the lookout. Get there an hour before sunset and enjoy the stunning show. 

4. Briggs Nature Center Boardwalk Trail, Naples

• Location: Briggs Nature Center
• Length: 0.6 Miles
• Difficulty: Easy

This boardwalk hiking trail is a short route that’s perfect for the entire family. Plus, the trail is wheelchair accessible and is a fantastic path for moms with strollers. As you trek, you’ll stroll through forested areas and marshlands with off-shoot trails leading to lookouts and water views. Keep your eyes open for wildlife, including wetland birds, blue crabs, otters, and various reptiles like gators. Stay until the sun begins its descent and prepare to be awe-struck. This family-friendly boardwalk trail in Naples is peaceful and a lovely way to end the day.    

5. Black Creek Canal, Homestead

• Location:  Biscayne National Park
• Length: 1.7 Miles
• Difficulty: Easy

Not much effort is needed as you trek the Black Creek Canal at Biscayne National Park. In fact, the short and sweet, partially paved trail is a pathway with scenic water views leading to a jetty. Expect mangrove-lined shores and wildlife; you’ll cross small footbridges and boardwalks, and there will be lots of boat traffic and paddlers as well. But the best part?
