There are even a few documented historical Chinese texts which have mention of the Lyrids in them from over 2,500 years ago.

The meteor shower is created by the debris from the comet Thatcher, which usually takes around 415 years to orbit the Sun.

The next time this comet is expected to be seen from Earth is in 2276, which likely none of us will be around for.
