The Underrated Natural Wonder Every Delawarean Should See At Least Once

When you think of Natural Wonders in America, chances are your mind wanders to Yellowstone, Yosemite, or the Grand Canyon. There's actually one of the most beautiful natural wonders on the East Coast right in your own backyard! Trap Pond State Park features a unique ecosystem of bald cypress trees and many exciting ways to explore.

Trap Pond State Park is home to the northernmost bald cypress swamp in the country. These trees literally grow right out of the water!

These bald cypress and cypress trees are wetland trees adapted to areas of calm, shallow standing water. Trap Pond is the perfect environment.

Explore Trap Pond from a canoe or kayak to get an up-close look at the wildlife that lives in and around the pond.

The park also offers interpretive programs designed to get you out onto the water in a Pontoon boat where you'll learn about the pond ecosystem.

On foot, you can explore miles of trails that wind their way around the pond.

See if you can spot a few of the biggest Holly trees you've ever seen as you walk the paths.

The views from Trap Pond State Park's many footbridges will show you what life is like right above the water!

Keep an eye out for wildlife! Great blue herons, owls, warblers, and woodpeckers are common here. In season, you might even spot a bald eagle!
