Springtime in the First State brings warm weather, beautiful wildflowers, and so much more. It's a great season to visit the beaches without crowds, and our state parks are truly their best in the breezy spring air. One of the best ways to welcome the season is to plan on watching the Lyrid meteor shower in Delaware! This April stargazing show is always an incredible sight to see. This year, the New Moon will make for some of the darkest skies of the year.

The Lyrid Meteor Shower in Delaware will peak on the night of April 21-22, 2020, and Delawareans should mark their calendars and keep an eye on the skies.

This springtime meteor shower shows off a little more than a dozen meteors per hour for most of its peak, but the Lyrids are known for the occasional burst of more than 100 meteors. Expect the peak to occur in the early hours before dawn.

If you've ever been interested in astrophotography, the Lyrids are a great time to test out your snapping skills!

As always, Brandywine Creek State Park's Hawk Watch Lot will be one of the most popular places for stargazing.

Any of the Delaware beaches will showcase dark skies, and the low horizon means that you'll have a perfect view!

There's no excuse to skip the meteor shower, as April in Delaware tends to bring in warmer temperatures and breezy, fresh spring air. Grab a sweatshirt and a cup of coffee and head to the darkest sky you can find.
