This Secret Nature Park In Delaware Is a Hidden Paradise
It's the perfect place to take a stroll, no matter the season.
Delaware has its fair share of natural spaces to enjoy, and we bet you can name quite a few. But Valley Garden Park may not be on your radar, given that it's one of Delaware's lesser-known natural gems. We can't think of many better spots in the First State if you're looking to get away from it all for a reflective walk or a relaxing picnic.
Location
Tucked away in the "chateau country" of the Brandywine Valley, this hidden park in Delaware has miniature waterfalls along a peaceful stream, gorgeous landscaping, blossoming trees in the springtime, and so much more. Valley Garden Park, located just outside of Wilmington in Greenville, Delaware, was formerly owned by the du Pont family. It was once a farm, but today it is a beautifully landscaped park and garden.
Trail Length
Follow the 1.1-mile loop trail around the park, and you're sure to have a lovely stroll. There are multiple paths that branch off through the woods, if you're feeling a little adventurous. And if you're in the mood for a break, this gorgeous gem is also a picturesque spot to enjoy a picnic.
Difficulty
This peaceful escape is suitable for just about anyone. With an easy difficulty rating on AllTrails, the trail at this park only has an elevation gain of 124 feet. It takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete, but you may lose track of time there while admiring its beauty.
Attractions
Walk along the paved path of Valley Garden Park in the spring and summer, and you'll be surrounded by lush greenery and colorful flowers. Many of the trees here blossom in the springtime, too, showering the park with cascades of petals to admire. Plus, you'll want to keep an eye out for butterflies if you visit in late spring and summer; they tend to appreciate the abundance of flowers. A little stream with miniature waterfalls also runs through the park, inviting you to walk alongside and listen to the peaceful sounds of the water, punctuated by birdsong.
Best Time to Visit
While we love spending time here when the flowers are in full bloom during the spring and summer, Valley Garden Park is lovely year-round, too. Expect lots of color in the fall, and an even quieter and more peaceful ambiance in the winter. The paved path through the park makes for an easy, accessible walk no matter the season.
