There's a small city in Delaware that's the perfect base camp for your next hiking adventure. Georgetown, pop. 6,400, is a little city filled with big charm. But if you can tear yourself away from the antique shops, craft beverages, and historic sights, there’s another world waiting for you on the trails. Here are three scenic hiking trails near Georgetown, Delaware, that you’ll want to explore.

1. Gordons Pond Trail

We’ll start our hiking adventure on a trail that’s as easy as it is scenic and worth the short drive to the coast. The Gordons Pond Trail is is a nice, flat path that runs about six miles through the salt marshes of Cape Henlopen State Park.

The trail is open for hiking and biking and it offers splendid views of Gordons Pond, a saltwater lagoon where, depending in the season, you may encounter some gorgeous wildflowers and beautiful wading birds.

2. Seaside Nature Trail

While you're by the ocean, bask in the beauty of the seashore with this short hiking trail through the sand. The trail is less than a mile long but the soft sand makes hiking a bit more challenging.

The effort is worth it – the trail will take you to a spectacular beach with some amazing views. The nature center that’s next to the trail is also worth visiting and has some fascinating displays about local wildlife.

3. Redden State Forest Loop

Georgetown is ideally located near the state’s largest state forest. Redden State Forest is a vast area of parkland, covering more than 12,900 acres. The Redden State Forest Loop is a good way to experience the beauty of the park.

The trail is a little under five miles and it’s a peaceful, quiet hike. On some days, you may see no other hikers on the trail - just enjoy the sounds of the birds and the wind through the trees!
