The Beautiful Alapocas Woods Trail Is An Easy 1.8-mile Hike In Delaware That’s Great For Beginners And Kids
Alapocas Run State Park in Delaware offers a unique and relaxing outdoor experience with diverse terrain and scenic views.
While we might be biased, Delaware is one of the best places in the northeast to enjoy the outdoors. The landscape here is unexpectedly unique compared to other states nearby and enjoying time outside is something we're all lucky to be able to do. We might not have the giant peaks of the west, but what we lack in height we make up for in relaxing and beautiful ways to enjoy the outdoors.
We always love proving that Delaware is an absolutely beautiful state. And a visit to Alapocas Run State Park is a great way to do it!
There's quite a lot to see here, but we recommend the Alapocas Woods Trail for an easy, enjoyable and relaxing way to explore the outdoors.
There's an amazing diversity of terrain on the 1.8-mile route, leading into forests, along open paths and with views of Wilmington.
Portions pass by the Brandywine Creek and the spillway offers a nice opportunity to stop and rest.
In addition to the Wilmington Blue Rocks on display in the park, we love that portions include shade and forest. In the fall these areas are awash in colorful foliage.
Little adventurous feet will love the dirt path that leads to a few different opportunities to pass over creeks.
This trail also provides access to one of just a handful of state waterfalls!
There are a number of open spaces offering the perfect area for a picnic.
This route might not lead up a mountain, but it offers to chance to see more of the state's landscape than many others. And, it's close enough to Wilmington that it can be an easy day trip. Ambitious folks might even want to tackle it during a break from work in the city!
