Walk Along Dinosaur Tracks At This Small Park In Connecticut

It's amazing to think that not so long ago, we had dinosaurs in Connecticut. It's hard to imagine it now, but the area that is now the Nutmeg State once looked very different, and had a number of unusual species here. If you're a dinosaur lover yourself (or parent to one) and looking for places to check out remnants of dinosaurs in New England, it's likely you've visited Dinosaur State Park in Rocky Hill, CT. The park has indoor and outdoor exhibits with plenty of dinosaur tracks to check out. However, there's also a nearby lesser-known park where you can also see dinosaur tracks. Powder Hill Dinosaur Park in Middlefield, CT is a spot that's often overlooked by visitors, but also has several neat dinosaur footprints that you can walk right by today. Check it out:

Dinosaur State Park is a sprawling park with lots of trails that you can easily spend hours or all day exploring.

By contratst, Powder Hill Dinosaur Park is quite tiny.

It's a quick and easy day trip that won't take more than half an hour to check out.

Here, you'll see several footprints from dinosaurs that one lived in the area.

The species that left these prints are undetermined, but they're though to be from the early Jurassic period.

The tracks are named Eubrontes and are thought to be made by a type of carnivore similar to a Coelophysis (pictured). Did you know that dinosaur tracks are actually given their own scientific names? There are two other types of prints here, but it's likely that they are just from juveniles of the same species that left the larger tracks.

Regardless of what type of dinosaurs made these prints, it's pretty neat that you can walk alongside dinosaur tracks in Connecticut!
