This Connecticut Meadow Is One Of The Best Places To View Summer Wildflowers

Spring tends to get all the headlines when it comes to beautiful flowers in the Nutmeg State - have you ever seen the wonderful daffodils at Hubbard Park in Meriden? However, summer has its own very special bursts of color, too! Summer wildflowers in Connecticut are always a magnificent sight. There are hundreds of species of wildflowers all over the state, and while some are at their brightest in spring and fall, others come to bloom in the summertime. You can spot these colorful gems throughout the state's fields, parks, and trails. One of the best places to view wildflowers in Connecticut is at the aptly-named Wildflower Meadow in Vernon, CT. This little spot is part of the Belding Wildlife Management Area and is maintained by the state. While it's not really a garden in the typical sense, it's a beautiful meadow that's a perfect place to see Connecticut wildflowers.

The meadow was first planted in 2008, when wildflower seeds were spread in an attempt to revitalize the area.

Today, everything from purple coneflowers to bergamot and black-eyed Susans can be spotted here.

Visitors can stop by at any time of year. Those stopping by in winter have no idea how much color explodes here in the spring and summer months.

Come springtime, the field erupts into a blaze of purples and blues.

The meadow is typically at its most colorful in July.

Every other year, the field is completely mowed down so that weeds and trees don't overtake the flowers.

Two brooks and a river all meet nearby, so, as you can imagine, this is a vital habitat for many insects and animals.

There's a small pavilion here if you'd like to get out of the shade or enjoy a picnic.
