One of the most scenic states in New England, Connecticut is alive with breathtaking sights all year long. But if the views from the boardwalks and preserves aren't enough, consider these scenic overlooks for an unparalleled view from the top. They may require a little extra walking to get there, but the view is definitely worth it!
1. Dennis Hill (Norfolk)
The view from this hill offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills, lush with greenery, at 1,627 feet. In the autumn this view is almost overwhelming.
2. Fort Griswold (Groton)
The view from this historic land is one of the best places to catch a sunset. You can watch as it sinks behind the town of New London from across the river.
3. Gillette Castle (East Haddam)
Seeing the world through the eyes of William Gillette is definitely a unique experience! Who wouldn't want to catch this expansive view from the top of a castle?
4. Haystack Mountain (Norfolk)
Climbing this mountain gives you this view of the Connecticut River Valley. If you make it to the summit, the 34-foot tower lets you peek into other states.
5. Lovers Leap (New Milford)
Enjoy the view of the Housatonic River as you stand where Native American story says two lovers leapt to their deaths almost 300 years ago.
6. Mount Nonotuck (Litchfield)
7. Penwood State Park (Bloomfield)
8. Soapstone Mountain (Stafford)
9. Sleeping Giant (Hamden)
10. Squantz Pond State Park (New Fairfield)
11. West Rock Ridge (Hamden)
12. Talcott Mountain (Simsbury)
The view of Heublein Tower as you approach the summit is almost as magical as the view of Simsbury from the summit itself. This one is a real fan favorite!
