Marsh Botanical Garden Is The Hidden Garden In Connecticut That Almost No One Knows About

Feel like you've seen it all in the Nutmeg State? There's always more to discover - after all, there are plenty of hidden gems in Connecticut. One of our favorites is the beautiful Marsh Botanical Garden, which is tucked away on the Yale University campus in New Haven. The public greenspace was established back in 1899 and currently spans about eight acres. Exciting changes are coming for the garden and arboretum, as certain areas of the grounds are currently undergoing renovations. It's considered the best botanical garden in New Haven, CT.

There are many benefits to living near a major university. Colleges often have fascinating libraries, museums, and gardens open for the public to enjoy, and Yale is certainly no exception.

You'll find a wide variety of plants here, with everything from trees to desert dwellers to carnivorous species.

Much of the property is outdoors, but you'll also find six greenhouses that house more sensitive species.

If you visit in spring or summer, the colorful blooms are an especially brilliant spectacle sure to attract butterflies.

The magnolia collection contains beautiful examples of these gorgeous trees, including many Asian species that aren't as common in America.

The outdoor gardens are open to the public daily from 7:00 a.m. until sunset. Come by one afternoon and enjoy a peaceful stroll through these beautiful plants!

Visitors are welcome to explore the greenhouse collections as well, but note that they are only open at specific times on weekdays.

It's advised to make an appointment if you'd like to tour the greenhouses.

The Marsh Botanical Garden in New Haven may not be quite as popular as other botanical gardens in Connecticut, but it sure is just as gorgeous!
