My Favorite Park in Connecticut Is a Little-Known Oasis for Hiking, Fishing, and Bird-Watching

To get to my favorite state park in Connecticut, you might have to leave Connecticut, but just for a few minutes! Sherwood Island State Park is technically not attached to the Nutmeg State, but it's connected by roads and bridges, so it's easy to get to. That slight detachment from the rest of the state gives it a uniquely peaceful feel, and many Connecticut residents haven't visited despite it being part of the general Westport area.

Coming in at 238 acres, it's a largely unspoiled collection of beaches, wetlands, and woodlands waiting for you to explore. It's a great spot for hiking, biking along the main Sherwood Island Trail, and keeping an eye on the sky for the many species of birds that frequent the island.
