One of the very best places to do just that is at Lighthouse Point Park. This 82-acre oasis is in New Haven, right along the Long Island Sound, and it's the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon on the water.

Lighthouse Point Park gets its name from the historic lighthouse that lies on the easternmost point of New Haven Harbor. The lighthouse was built in 1847 and though it's no longer in use, it's an interesting piece of history to check out.

The park is a popular spot to visit for a stroll. It's a great place for spotting birds.

Seashell collectors will find themselves delighted with Lighthouse Point Park, as you'll typically spot a plethora of shells along the shore.

The park features a seasonally-open antique carousel with 72 figures mounted in 20 ranks.

Lighthouse Point Park has plenty of great attractions, but we've got to say, one of the best things to do here is just paddle along the water.

Whether your vehicle of choice is a kayak or simple paddle board, you'll have a grand time here. Those with less experience on the water are advised to stay close to shore, where there shouldn't be much tidal action.
