This Little-Known Trail Is Quite Possibly The Best Walking Path In Connecticut
We have no shortage of great hiking trails in Connecticut. One thing I love about the hikes here is just how much variety there is. There's something for everyone, whether you're an avid hiker looking for an all-day trek with lots of elevation gain or just prefer a quiet walk around a lake. One of the most underrated walking paths in Connecticut is at Swan Hill in Higganum. This tranquil, easy path is about a 1.9-mile loop that takes under an hour for most explorers. Check out this walking path near Haddam, CT
Swan Hill is in Higganum, a little village in Haddam. The trail here is surprisingly serene considering the trailhead is behind Haddam Elementary School.
The school is no longer used for its intended purpose, but it is home to occasional kids' programs, local craft markets, and farmers markets.
Swan Hill is a great escape for any time of year.
Come during the warm months and you'll be shocked at all the beautiful wildflowers in the area.
Fall brings a great deal of color too, though, of course, it's of the red, yellow, and orange varieties.
You'll definitely want to bring insect repellent if you visit during the spring or summer. All the greenery here has the downside of attracting ticks and other pests.
The views from the peak are quite incredible!
I love when you can find patches of wilderness like this right in the middle of a bustling town.
If you're looking for an easy escape into nature that won't take all day, this is a great option.
