Connecticut has many amazing attractions, but did you know there is a garden railroad nestled away in one of our most popular parks? Model trains ride the rails through a gorgeous setting enchanting both the young and young-at-heart. If you haven't seen this unique garden yet, you are going to want to plan a visit this spring.
There are 25 acres of incredibly beautiful gardens housed inside the 250-acre Wickham Park in Manchester.
There are a variety of plants, statuary, water elements, and design styles found within the scenic gardens. It's like taking a walk through a beautiful fairytale.
The sensory garden occupies 3/4 of an acre in the gardens and is divided into six sections each of which is dedicated to one of the five senses plus the sixth sense of imagination.
The G scale garden railroad is one of the most popular parts of the sensory garden.
The trains make their way through the garden traversing a bridge, chugging through a tunnel, and moving through the picturesque setting. The railroad operates on weekends from noon until 2:00 p.m.
The sensory railroad garden was designed for the enjoyment of both young and old, but with special attention to people with disabilities.
In addition to the railroad, you will find a gorgeous setting that is a delightful refuge from the outside world.
Wickham Park is also home to many other themed gardens including an Italian Shrine, English Garden, Wetland Garden, and others.
The Oriental Garden is a visitor favorite at the park with its unique structures and water features.
Kids will love an adventure here. In addition to the gardens, there is an aviary, nature center, playground, and lots of open space.
Wikham Park is open 7 days a week from the first weekend in April through the last weekend in October.
The Park is located at 1329 Middle Tpke. W., Manchester, CT. There is a $5 fee for parking on weekdays and $7 parking charge on weekends.
