Inniswood Metro Gardens is a Columbus Metro Park located in Westerville.
This park is a 20 minute drive from downtown Columbus.
Formally known as the Inniswood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve, the park and gardens sit on 123 acres of land.
Within that land, the central area consists of a variety of a gardens, while the outside is left more wild.
The part was established when sisters Grace and Mary Innis donated their home gardens to Franklin County Metro Parks in 1972.
These original 37 acres of gardens and woodlands were donated with the goal of providing enjoyment and natural education to all people.
In memory of Grace and Mary, the park opened the 2.8-acre Sisters' Garden in 2002.
This garden is meant to celebrate the complexity of nature and the inquisitiveness of childhood.
As you walk through the park you'll find beautifully landscaped gardens with a backdrop of wild streams and woods.
This juxtaposition provides something to enjoy for everyone and for every mood.
You will find gardens dedicated to specific plants and a variety of themes.
The garden contains more than 2,000 plant species with collections of conifers, daffodils, daylilies, hostas. Themes gardens include herbal, medicinal, rose, and woodland rock garden.
The Nature Preserve and thriving gardens offer a wonderful place for wildlife.
Among the gardens, woods, and wildflowers you will see incredible birds and butteflies.
The park offers two miles of trails.
Some trails take you through the gardens, while others take you through wooded areas.
Four of the trails are ADA accessible.
These are the Sister's Garden Loop, Boardwalk, Brookwood, and Frog Talk Walk trails.
The other two trails are also easy hikes that anyone can do.
These include the gravel Spring Run that runs through an oak-hickory forest, and the paved Chipmunk Chatter trail, which is the only park of the park where pets are allowed.
The gardens offer some incredible landscaping, architectural features, and details.
Roaming around the trails will provide you with both a nature retreat and artistic inspiration.
Inniswood cares about providing education in horticulture and natural sciences.
Lectures and programs are available and tailored both towards adults and children. Programs include learning to identify red oak trees, learn about woodpeckers, and teaching children to care for and cleanup the gardens.
The park also offers a variety of entertainment.
This includes music shows, a Halloween Party, and nature photo contests.
