Barr Lake State Park is a fantastic yet underrated state park in Colorado. This park was established in 1977 and covers 2,715 acres. It's in Brighton, which is just north of Denver. The people who know and love this park know it well and love it very much, but many people don't even know it exists! Besides offering incredible views of the mountains and an 8.8-mile trail that circles the lake, this state park is truly epic for birdwatching. You'll be amazed by the number of species you see in even a short visit. Best of all, if you go there, you'll have a very good chance of spotting one or more bald eagles. Due to the large lake here, Barr Lake State Park attracts all kinds of birds. You'll probably see a great blue heron or two.

Over 350 species of birds have been spotted in this park.

More than 50 bald eagles spend their winters at the park. Some years, as many as 100 or more show up!

Around a dozen bald eagles spend their entire year at Barr Lake State Park.

Some nest and raise their young there, too. And you know what that means - baby bald eagles!
