These Charming Apple Orchards In Northern California Are Picture Perfect For A Fall Day

Apple Hill in Northern California offers a magical experience with family-owned apple orchards and vineyards, especially vibrant in the fall.

In between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe, nestled delicately near the town of Camino in Northern California, is a magical network of apple orchards and growers called Apple Hill. These family farms and the surrounding vineyards are all family owned and operated, and each feature their own special variations on the classic apple treats of fall: apple fritters, apple donuts, apple cider, and even apple pie. While these idyllic Northern California farms are gorgeous year-round, there is no better time to visit these beautiful orchards than the fall, when leaves are beginning to turn and the crisp, fresh apples are picked straight off the tree and at their best. Here are just a few of the apple orchards in Northern California that can be found at Apple Hill, and why this region should definitely go on your fall bucket list.

1. Boa Vista Orchards, Placerville

Many places in the Apple Hill offer tremendous views of the Crystal Range of the Sierra Nevada, like here at Boa Vista Orchards! Personally, we think apple picking in Northern California tops everywhere else - you can't ask for better views. The people are friendly and the farms are quaint. Apple Hill is well worth the drive into the countryside.

And the sheer variety here...Golden Delicious, Pink Ladies, Gala, Red Delicious, Granny Smith... yum! 22 varieties can be found at Boa Vista alone, but nearly every variety of apple you could desire is available in Apple Hill.

And at Boa Vista Orchards, you'll find plenty of apple goodness to indulge in! As the only year-round farm in Apple Hill, and having been around since 1915, they know a thing or two, that's for sure.

The pastries are ABSOLUTELY divine, and grab some hard cider to enjoy at home while you're at it.

2. High Hill Orchards, Placerville

Of course, there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy your apple treats, like the pond at High Hill Ranch. You'll find benches to sit on, plenty of hay bales, and even the on-site dining areas.

Apple picking season won't last forever! Get your fill before the last fruit falls to the ground.

3. Pine-O-Mine Ranch, Placerville

Pine-O-Mine is just one of the 16 apple ranches found here , although the produce isn't limited to just apples.

But whichever family farm you choose (or check them all off your list this year!), you can enjoy your apples baked, dipped in caramel, or right off the tree. Apple Hill is know for its delicious baked goods, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy a crisp, juicy fruit that you picked yourself.

This gorgeous region is perfect for a fall family outing, and you're certain to get your fill of traditional seasonal activities no matter where you go!

Apple Hill is a well-loved family tradition that spans decades...1964, to be exact! Join the fun and share the magic of these beautiful mountain apple orchards with your family this season!

These apple orchards are just the start! Other NorCal orchards here include Apple Ridge Farms, Drew Bean Farms, Larsen Apple Barn, and many others. You can find the full list of Northern California apple orchards in Apple Hill on their website, as well as peruse the community of vineyards, bakeries, cider presses, inns, and more. But one thing is for sure, whatever autumn staple is calling your name, you're sure to find it here!
