Only an hour away from Buffalo, the small town of Holley in Orleans County is home to a quaint little park.
Holley's Canal Park showcases a slice of the area's local history regarding the Erie Canal and makes for a wonderful place to explore.
The park is brimming with paved trails that are always well taken care of. You'll find families from all around Western New York enjoying all that the park has to offer.
At the end of Holley Falls Road in Canal Park though, you'll start to notice something absolutely stunning.
A waterfall! Holley Canal Falls is slightly deceiving, while the falls may look like your typical New York natural wonder — this one is actually man-made.
Flowing since 1918, this waterfall is actually the result of a need for diverting excess water from the Erie Canal down to Sandy Creek.
Now a wonderful park has been created around the falls, with plenty of shaded areas, picnic tables, shelters, and spots where you can relax for the day.
Flowing down nearly 40-feet, Holley Canal Falls is a lesser-known gem that you'll almost always have to yourself when you visit.
Between the beautiful nature trails and this unique waterfall, there are more than enough reasons to make the quick trip out to Canal Park.
