This One Easy Hike In Austin Will Lead You Someplace Unforgettable

Sometimes Austin feels worlds away from the rest of the state, but when you hike through the Wild Basin Nature Preserve, there's no doubt that you're in Texas. The rolling hills, lush greenery, and fluffy clouds surge with Lone Star majesty, and the expansive scenery will make you burst with Texas pride. St. Edward's University nurtures the preserve and uses this jaw-dropping landscape for educational programs, but the grounds are also open to the public. The Wild Basin trail forms a 2.5 mile loop that weaves through babbling creeks, fragrant wildflowers, and verdant trees. Only one mile in length, this easy hike in Austin, however, leads to a view that's truly unforgettable.

The trail begins with a rustic view of Austin's expansive hillside.

Along the way, you'll see wildflowers that pop with color. Their sweet smell will fill you with happiness.

Trees hug the path, shielding you from the abrasive Texas heat.

Keep your eye out for wildlife! If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the endangered Golden–cheeked warbler.

This stunning waterfall greets you at the end of the hike. You'll hear the rippling water from around the bend. Go ahead and dip your toes in the water! You can't beat the cool, refreshing feeling.

Of course, the hike doesn't have to end here! Continue down the Yaupon path and discover more awe-inspiring views.
